The Family Court Unit of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office includes the Juvenile Unit, which is responsible for the prosecution of all violations of the 2C Criminal Code committed by individuals under the age of eighteen years, which are listed on the Counsel Mandatory Calendar of the New Jersey Superior Court Family-Part. In addition to prosecuting counsel-mandatory cases, the Juvenile Unit approves matters screened for court diversion and oversees the Stationhouse Adjustment diversion program, which is active in all municipalities in Atlantic County.

Personnel in the Juvenile Unit are also responsible for litigating motions to transfer jurisdiction to the Superior Court – Criminal Division, in cases deemed appropriate for a waiver.

The Juvenile Unit operates out of a satellite campus located in Atlantic City.

This unit also handles Court contempt cases for disposition in the Family Part of the Superior Court. and is a component of the Family Crimes Section of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. This Unit also has the ability to Indict or Remand cases to the Family Court or local municipal courts.  The unit also handles civil forfeiture motions that involved the seizure of firearms pursuant to the Domestic Violence Act.
