TWO ATLANTIC CITY MEN INDICTED IN CONNECTION TO AUGUST 2017 MURDER

MAYS LANDING- An Atlantic County grand jury returned an indictment against two Atlantic City men on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, in connection with the murder of Deshawn Dawkins that occurred on August 27, 2017, in Atlantic City, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Bashawn K. Whitted-Scott, 25, and Brian S. Richardson, 26, were indicted for the following:

  • First degree Felony Murder
  • First degree Armed Robbery
  • Second degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose
  • Second degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun
  • Second degree Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery

In addition, Brian S. Richardson, 26, was also indicted for second degree Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Person.

On August 27, 2017, in the area of 8 S. Virginia Avenue, Dawkins was shot and killed during the course of a robbery. Whitted-Scott is in custody in the Atlantic County Justice Facility and Richardson is a fugitive and remains at large.

The investigation is led by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Major Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the Atlantic City Police Department. Assistant Prosecutor Marisa McGarvey represents the state in the matter.
