STATEMENT FROM ATLANTIC COUNTY PROSECUTOR DAMON G. TYNER ON DEREK CHAUVIN GUILTY VERDICT

“Eleven months ago, the world watched Derek Chauvin murder George Floyd. What followed was a summer of discourse where the voices of the voiceless were finally heard. Today, a jury rendered its verdict which confirmed what our eyes saw. While New Jersey has long led the way in police training and criminal justice reform, we still have a long way to go, as a County, as a State, and as a Country. We must continue to have real conversations and dialogue between our communities and law enforcement, which will make us stronger and break down the barriers of distrust. The change that needs to happen will take a collective effort which will require all of us to take responsibility and hold each other accountable. Our thoughts are with the people of Minnesota and our country as we move forward seeking justice in all walks of life.”
