ATLANTIC CITY- The Atlantic City Police Citizens Police Academy is a free, nine-week civilian academy for city adults and participants graduated on April 30, 2021.
At the graduation, Neighborhood Coordination Officers of the Atlantic City Police Department offered RANDOM ACTS OF COPNESS as they assisted in organizing the event and serving food to graduates and those in attendance.
“Since yesterday these NCO officers have been here cleaning the gym and preparing for the event. These officers are truly protecting and serving,” Atlantic City Police Lt. Santiago said on the day of the event.
The Atlantic City Citizens Police Academy is organized in an effort to foster and promote an understanding by the citizens in Atlantic City of the services and challenges facing public safety personnel.
“Now more than ever we are in a critical time in this country and we need citizens to assist law enforcement in working together to bridge the gap in our communities. Members of the community must hold each other accountable to improve the quality of life for all. I applaud the work of the Neighborhood Coordination Officers of the Atlantic City Police Department and their efforts to connect with members of our communities to give a better understanding of law enforcement’s role in our neighborhoods,” said Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner.
The academy was held on Wednesdays from March 2 to April 28 at the Atlantic City Police Athletic League building.
The Atlantic City Police Citizens Police Academy provided students with insight into the Department’s Neighborhood Coordination Unit and its officers. Students received tours of ACPD’s surveillance and 911 communications, as well as the Atlantic City Fire Department. Students also received instruction about the ACPD’s bomb squad, SWAT team, forensics unit and K-9 unit.
Thank you to these officers for their service and for going above and beyond the call of duty in the Atlantic City community that they serve!
