MULLICA TOWNSHIP MAN INVOLVED IN BURGLARY DIES OF GUNSHOT WOUNDS


MAYS LANDING- A Mullica Township man has died from gunshot wounds sustained while committing a burglary on Monday, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

On Monday, March 16, 2020, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Mullica Township Police Department received a 911 call, reporting a home break-in and subsequent gunshot injury on the 3000 block of Moores Avenue.  Mullica Township Police responded and located Paul Destefano, 30, with serious injuries.  Destefano was airlifted to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City where he was treated for these injuries. 

On Wednesday, March 18, 2020, Mr. Destefano was pronounced deceased at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.  Cause and Manner of death are pending autopsy to be completed later in the week.  The investigation revealed there is no continuing threat to the community as a result of this incident.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit assisted the Mullica Township Police Department with the investigation. An identification is known to law enforcement of a civilian who was involved in the shooting. The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
