MAYS LANDING- An Atlantic City woman has been charged in connection to the assault of a one year-old boy that was in her care, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Lisa Henderson, 55, was charged with Aggravated Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

On November 30, 2017, the Atlantic City Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation related to a one year-old boy with a significant head injury. The child was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division and later transferred to Cooper University Hospital. It was determined that the child suffered from a brain bleed and required emergency medical treatment and the injury occurred at the residence of Henderson who was the child’s babysitter.

Henderson is self-employed, operating an unlicensed daycare facility out of her residence. On November 30, 2017, Henderson was the lone adult watching several young children. She claimed that the child fell from a bed, which measured approximately 23 inches high, and the fall caused him to have a seizure and lose consciousness.

Medical reports indicate that the child had a fracture of his right coronal suture, a large subdural hematoma, a cervical spine injury and retinal hemorrhages. This was classified as a near fatal injury. Medical reports also indicate that a short household fall does not explain these injuries.

The child was released from the hospital. Henderson was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on March 6, 2018. Assistant Prosecutor David Ruffenach represents the state.
