ATLANTIC CITY MAN CONVICTED OF ARMED ROBBERY


MAYS LANDING- An Atlantic City man was convicted on Wednesday after a three day trial in connection to an armed robbery in Atlantic City, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Maurice Treakle, 47, was convicted of the following charges:

  • First degree Robbery
  • Third degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose
  • Fourth degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon

During the trial, the prosecution presented to the jury that after winning money at the casino, on Aug. 26, 2017, the victim, a 23 year-old man, was walking in the area of Isaac Cole Plaza when he was attacked by two men, one of which was identified as Treakle who wielded a knife. The victim was punched in the face and robbed of his money and phone at knife point. Treakle was located a few blocks away from the scene carrying a knife and the victim’s cell phone. The other man was never identified.

Treakle faces a minimum of 10 to 20 years in New Jersey state prison and is subject to the No Early Release Act. Treakle is also extended term eligible, thereby having a sentencing exposure of life imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled for December 7, 2018. Assistant Prosecutors Harlee Stein and Deirdre Laws represented the State.
