ABSECON MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, WEAPONS CHARGES

MAYS LANDING- An Absecon man who was indicted in October 2018, on child pornography charges has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Edward Bonek

Edward Bonek, 50, pleaded guilty this morning to Endangering the Welfare of a Child by Distributing Child Pornography and Possession of an Assault Firearm. Bonek has also agreed to forfeit his principal and teacher’s licenses.

“As an educator and a principal, Ed Bonek was charged with the responsibility of protecting children.  Instead, he used his school issued computer to exploit children through his possession and distribution of child pornography.  Children are among the most vulnerable victims in our society and it is almost inconceivable that a predator, in the form of a high school principal, had access to potential victims every day he reported for duty.  I am outraged by the continuous assault upon the children in our community,” Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said.

On Oct. 23, 2018, Bonek was indicted on the following charges:

  1. Endangering Welfare of a Child – Possession of Child Pornography 2nd degree

  4. Endangering Welfare of a Child – Distribution of Child Pornography via a file-sharing program 1st degree
  5. Official Misconduct – 2nd degree
  6. Unlawful Possession of an Assault Firearm – 2nd degree
