18 YEAR-OLD MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER, 2 COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED MURDER IN PLEASANTVILLE SHOOTING


PLEASANTVILLE- An 18 year-old Pleasantville man is charged in the fatal shooting of a 26 year-old man and wounding two other 18 year-old men in Pleasantville on April 8, 2021, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced.

Karim Rice, 18, of Pleasantville is charged with the following offenses:

·         Murder

·         2 counts of Attempted Murder

·         Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose

·         Unlawful Possession of a Weapon

Rice is currently lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

On Thursday, April  8, 2021, at 2:57 p.m., 911 calls were received at the Pleasantville Police Department, reporting that multiple victims had been shot on the 100 block of Linden Avenue.

Pleasantville Police Officers responded to the scene and located Maurice Hampton, aka “Abdul Hamid”, 26, of Pleasantville who had been shot and killed. The two 18 year-old shooting victims who survived are identified as Messiah Burton and Shilameen Henderson, both of Pleasantville. The men were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus and both survived their injuries.

This cooperative investigation between the ACPO Major Crimes Unit and the Pleasantville Police Department. Assistant Prosecutor Kathleen Robinson represents the state in this matter.
