Training
Members of the investigative staff of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office must be certified by the New Jersey Police Training Commission attesting to completion of the Basic Course for Investigators, or submission of a waiver of training. Sworn personnel must first receive agency training mandated by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, prior to attending the Criminal Justice Training Academy. This training is conducted by various members of the Prosecutor’s staff. Following academy training, all new county investigators are assigned to a field Training Officer who is responsible for providing orientation and guidance.
Basic training only provides a foundation of skills for the County Investigator. Additional training for the members of the Detective Division of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is coordinated by the Detective Division Training Officer. The investigative staff also receives annual In-Service training covering subjects mandated by the State of New Jersey, such as Domestic Violence, arrest, search and seizure, CPR, defensive tactics, use of force and simunitions. Several members of our investigative staff and assistant prosecutors instruct at the Police Academy for basic training and In-Service training. Firearms training is also conducted twice each year for all investigative personnel at the Atlantic County Pistol Range in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.
All new employees are provided with orientation training at the time they are hired. They also receive agency training from the Atlantic County Personnel Department.
Additional training is provided to staff members of the Prosecutor’s Office from funds made from county and grant funding sources.
