First Assistant Prosecutor Murray A. Talasnik
supervises all litigation functions in the office. Mr. Talasnik is in charge of the legal staff and is responsible, with the approval
of the Prosecutor, for the hiring, firing and transfer of assistant prosecutors within
different sections of the office. He also oversees the investigation, assignment
and monitoring of all homicide cases and police shooting cases. Mr. Talasnik received his B.A. from Marietta College,
Marietta, Ohio in 1971 and received his law degree in 1974 from Villanova Law School in
Pennsylvania. Following his admission to the practice of
law in New Jersey, Mr. Talasnik served as a judicial clerk in the Chancery and Civil
Divisions of Superior Court in Cumberland County, New Jersey before becoming an associate
with a small Cumberland County general practice firm. In 1976, Mr. Talasnik
was hired as an Assistant Deputy Public Defender for the Cumberland, Salem and Cape May
County region and served as a trial attorney with that office for three years. In 1980, he was hired as an assistant
prosecutor in the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office serving first as a trial
attorney and then as Chief of the Trial Division. In 1985, Mr. Talasnik was
promoted to Cumberland County First Assistant Prosecutor. Mr. Talasnik held
that position until February 1988 when he joined the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office
as Chief of the Trial Section. In July 1991, Mr. Talasnik was promoted by
Prosecutor Blitz to First Assistant Prosecutor in Atlantic County, the position he
currently holds. Mr. Talasnik is a member of the Atlantic
County Criminal Division Speedy Trial Committee and is also a trustee of the Atlantic
County Bar Association.
