Gang Resistance Education And Training
During the course each student’s sense of individualism is reinforced and alternatives to gang membership are discussed. Open classroom discussion is encouraged and many parents would be surprised with their child’s knowledge, interpretation and often times misconception of gang activity in Atlantic County .
It is important to stress the need for parental involvement in anti-gang education. Too often gang membership and activity is glorified on television and in movies. Your children need your help to sort through what is fact and what is fiction and should be encouraged to partake in organized group activities. Participation in organized sports, Boy/ Girl Scouts of America, your local PAL program, extracurricular school activities and many other similar groups should be encouraged. The self confidence gained during the participation in such activities will go a long way in ensuring your child resists the temptations of gang involvement.
Do you want to make your own decisions: decisions as simple as when you want to eat, when you want to sleep, when you want to go outside? Of course you do. Anyone who is even close to smart knows that! If you join a gang, sooner or later those decisions are made for you. Because sooner or later you end up in prison, where you're TOLD when to eat, TOLD when to sleep and TOLD when you are "allowed" outside. But that's only if you are lucky. If you're unlucky you end up dead. So if you join a gang you can be "lucky" or "unlucky". Either way you lose.
You have a lot of options instead of getting into a gang. You can play sports, join the Boy Scouts , Girl Scouts or your local Police Athletic League or get involved with the MANY activities at your school. Most important is that YOU be your OWN person! So, think about it. It's your life, and you only get one go-around.
