The Juvenile Unit of the Prosecutor's Office is responsible for the prosecution of individuals under the age of 18 who have been charged with acts of delinquency in Atlantic County.

Juvenile charges referred to Superior Court - Family Part are reviewed to determine which may be disposed of informally and which should be formally prosecuted by the County Prosecutor's Juvenile Unit before a Superior Court Judge.   Representation by counsel is mandatory for juvenile offenders charged with first- and second-degree offenses and for those with serious records of delinquency.   First-time offenders with less serious charges are more likely to receive diversionary or informal dispositions not requiring appearances in court before a judge.
