Central Records is a repository for more than 80,000 criminal docket files that span a period of ten years.   The staff of the Central Records Unit is responsible for maintaining and updating these files.   Their responsibility not only includes the manual filing of a constant flow of correspondence and legal papers, but also the scanning of these documents into the office computer system as they are received.   Documents are scanned on a daily basis and become immediately available to the staff to review on computer screen or by printout.   Central Records also tracks domestic violence, juvenile and expungement docket files.

The staff of Central Records also has the responsibility of inputting information into the State of New Jersey Promis/Gavel database regarding the disposition of criminal matters or changes in defendant status.

In addition to the criminal docket files maintained in the Mays Landing office, Central Records also maintains an off-site facility for older criminal docket files.   Many criminal docket files must be stored indefinitely.   Central records also coordinates the opening and closing of docket files and the destruction of docket files in accordance with state guidelines.

Central Records handles thousands of phone inquires a year from the public and other law enforcement agencies.   They also cover reception desk responsibilities.
