The Official Corruption Unit of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is responsible for investigating all allegations of official misconduct by local or county public officials. A public official is any individual elected, appointed or hired to a position of trust in government or any political subdivision. This unit investigates conduct prohibited by law regarding police crime, which is the use of police authority to facilitate the commission of a criminal act and, corruption, which is the misuse of authority for personal gain and/or profit.
Approximately 20 percent of the complaints received by the Official Corruption Unit are made by private citizens; the balance come from municipal officials and employees. This unit provides the public with a professional response by trained and experienced investigators who approach all matters in an unbiased and objective manner.
The Official Corruption Unit provides support and direction for the municipal police departments in Atlantic County regarding any matter involving police and/or public employee misconduct.
