Chief Daren J. Dooley
Chief Daren J. Dooley currently commands the Detective Division of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. The Division consists of the Investigations, Litigatio
n, and Administration Sections. The Investigations Division consists of 13 specialized units including the Major Crimes Squad (Homicide, Forensics, Arson, and Fatal Collision Units), Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, Crimes Against Children Unit, Sex Crimes Unit, Shooting Response Team, Official Corruption Unit, County Intelligence Unit, Financial Crimes and Insurance Fraud Unit, and the Computer Crimes Unit. The Litigation Section consists of both sworn and civilian personnel assigned to support the Trial, Grand Jury, and Special Litigation functions of the Prosecutor’s Office. The Administration Section is responsible for the budget and personnel functions of the agency. These Sections are managed by Superior Officers who report to the Chief. The Chief of County Detectives reports directly to the Prosecutor.
Chief Dooley was appointed to Chief of County Detectives by both former Atlantic County Prosecutor Jeffrey S. Blitz (2004) and current Atlantic County Prosecutor Theodore F.L. Housel (2010).
Chief Dooley began his career in law enforcement in 1994. Hired as an Investigator in the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, Chief Dooley worked in numerous units including Litigation, Financial Crimes, Major Crimes, Crimes Against Children, Narcotics, Administration, and has served as a member and team leader of the Emergency Response Team. He has held a variety of supervisory positions including Sergeant of County Investigators, Lieutenant of County Investigators, Captain of County Investigators, Deputy Chief and Chief of County Investigators.
Chief Dooley is a life-long resident of Atlantic County. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Salisbury University, located in Salisbury, Maryland and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from St. Joseph's University, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the Atlantic County Police Academy and the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice Modified Basic Course for Investigators. Chief Dooley is also a graduate of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police West Point Command and Leadership Program and has served as an instructor for the program. Chief Dooley is a graduate of the 241st Session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy. He has also served as an instructor in the areas of firearms, chemical agents, officer survival, and interview and interrogation.
Chief Dooley is a former President and Vice President of the Chief of County Detectives/Investigators Association of New Jersey. Additionally, Chief Dooley is a current member and former Executive Board member of the Atlantic County Association of Chiefs of Police and member of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. He has served and continues to serve as a member of various law enforcement advisory boards and local community organizations and committees.
