Partnership    -    Communication    -    Trust & Respect    -    Problem Solving    -    Get Involved!

Community policing is fast becoming the new approach to providing effective police services to our Nation's communities. One of the core components of the community policing concept is building a partnership between the police and the community. With a strong and mutually trusting partnership, community policing will continue to grow and evolve. In order for community policing to be effective within Atlantic County, it is important to remember some of the key elements of community policing:

1) Community policing begins with a partnership. There must always be a strong and positive bond between the police and the community. With a partnership in place, Community Policing is an effective law enforcement tool.

2) Trust and respect is mutual. Police organizations and the community must have the utmost trust and respect for each other, and understand that they are both equally important in the Community Policing equation.

3) Communication is paramount. Whether it is by telephone, letter, or simply face to face, mutual communications between police organizations and the community must always remain strong. Community members should be encouraged and feel comfortable in speaking  with their government leaders and public safety professionals about problems they see in their communities.

4) Be involved. Take an active part in your communities growth and development. Know who your government leaders and public safety professionals are. In order to flourish and survive, communities need the active participation of it's citizens. Be heard, your voice is your strongest tool.

5) Community policing is about problem solving. Help recognize and conquer the problems that exist within your community. Ideas and methods of change that are exchanged through Community Policing will help to solve those problems.

It is always important to remember that in every community the public safety of our private citizens is of the utmost importance. Please continue to do your part in making sure that Atlantic County remains a safe and pleasant community.
